    Herb's Description

    Cichorium intybus Linn.. A perennial herb with branched stem reaching 1m high. Basal leaves are pinnatifid, upper leaves lanceolate, flower-heads occur in groups of 2 or 3, flowers are ligulate, sky-blue or somewhat darker in colour1100'. Having two varieties: i) cultivated, ii) wild. The root which is used in treatment is obtained by special method. The plant is not usually allowed to seed. The roots are either sun dried or kiln dried. Although sun dried roots have a better appearance, kiln dried are more effective and preferred in use
